Trip: Bato Springs, Laguna

We just agreed to visit this place for the sole purpose of checking it out. We never bothered to check online about visitors’ reviews and such. The only item we checked about Bato Springs was its’ location. And boy, are we surprised when we finally took a plunge into the springs!

Springs in Laguna, as most Filipinos would know, are hot. You know, those types where we learned during science classes that there’s sulfur underneath that boils the water and is believed to bring therapeutic effects. Bato Springs has all the promises a “spring” would usually offer. The only difference was that the water’s extremely cold! I saw a group of people leave bottle of sodas in the spring and after half an hour or so, they have ice cold drinks.

Don’t get me wrong though. It’s a change and CHALLENGE for people like me who love hot springs and allergic to self-inflicted pain. “Bato Springs” gave me the relaxation I need and definitely, after cold water mixes with cold air, anyone would feel rejuvenated!

The area around Bato Springs are covered in lush greens. Think of a mini virgin forest. The greeneries invokes a relaxing feeling. I think this area also shows the religious side apparent in most Filipinos since we saw Mary’s (Mama Mary to some) Grotto overlooking the main spring area.

The fresh water in Bato Springs is extremely cold. It’s like blocks and blocks of ice are melted down just to create the springs! It took us quite some time before we can fully dip ourselves in and braved the cold sensation bought by the springs. The springs are divided in three areas (at least I think it's’ 3 areas). First is the mini spring where we can see the mini falls. Those who want to have a monk-like experience can go stand under the fall and feel the water pressure massage their head and shoulders.

Next area would be the main spring. Trees surrounds the whole area which gives visitors natural shades for relazation. The waters’ calm and there’s another falls which covers a cave-like entrance by the end of the spring. This so-called cave is ideal for some picture-taking moments or if people simply want to chat since there’s a ledge by the end where people can sit. My apologies for the silliness of the pic. That’s me and my 2 best friends imitating the “Hear, Speak and See No Evil” concept.
Lastly, the pool side. There’s also another set of falls found in this pool. Water’s the same of course. What more can I say about a pool but… Well, it’s an ordinary, common pool! Lolz! My friends enjoyed it since they can swim well (yeah, I can’t swim even if my life depends on it. Lolz!)
Aside from these, Bato Springs also offer an area where people can dine, barbeque and even sing. Come on now... We know how Filipinos LOVE to sing! No typical Filipino resort would NOT have a karaoke machine! No reservations though. And make sure to pocket a lot of change! You get instant audiences so make sure to practice your belting prowess before taking on the videoke here. Lolz!

In all, I really enjoyed my experience at Bato Springs. It’s definitely worth the travel time and money. Entrance and area rental fee is not really that expensive especially if you came in a group. There are also cottages available for those who want to stay overnight and extend their stay. It’s advisable to do your reservations ahead of time.
