Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) Live Movie [UPDATED]

I’ve been an avid fan of Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) ever since the anime started. I’ve followed every OVA and even bought the manga. OST anyone? I’m a total Rurouni Kenshin otaku and it’s no question why I’m thrilled the first time I heard of the live movie rumor last year. Incidentally, after a few months, the rumor is confirmed. Rurouni Kenshin will indeed be turned into a live movie!

The movie is produced by Warner Brothers so I’m having high hopes for an international screening. The film will concentrate more on the first few episodes from the anime. Maybe touching a bit on Kenshin’s past and why he turned into a Rurouni, how he met Kaoru, Sano, etc. Basically, I think the movie’s will concentrate more on the group’s encounter with Megumi and the Oniwabanshu-gumi. Oniwabanshu, as most Rurouni fans would know, is the group where Aoshi and Misao belongs to but since this movie will cover the earlier episodes of the anime, I don’t think Misao will appear. Same goes with Shishio and the rest of his Juppongatana group. I’m having my fingers crossed for a sequel!

Sato Takeru will take on the challenge for the lead role as Himura Kenshin, the assassin-turned-wanderer protagonist of the movie. I’ve seen him act before in Mei-chan no Shitsuji and Kamen Rider Den-O. I think he can pull off this wandering assassin role. With him is a set of an all-power cast. I’m glad to see Aoi Yu as a member of the main cast. The settings and props of the movie definitely looked well prepared and thought off. Since I was amazed to see the screen caps of the background scenes, what more will I expect in the movie?

Cast:
Sato Takeru – Himura Kenshin
Takei Emi – Kamiya Kaoru
Aoi Yu – Takani Megumi
Aoki Munetaka – Sagara Sanosuke
Tanaka Taketo – Myojin Yahiko
Eguchi Yosuke – Saito Hajime
Kikkawa Koji – Udo Jin-e

Rurouni Kenshin will air in Japan’s movie screens on August 25, 2012. I really hope for an international SUBBED (please, please, please no dubbed) screening! Rurouni Kenshin, by the way, was originally a manga created by Nobuhiro Watsuki and was serialized through “Weekly Shounen Jump” from 1994-1999. The manga (28 volumes) sold over 50 million copies.
